Micromedia flash player update failed

I have windows xp Pro. It is setup to alert me when updates are available. Recently, it informed me that updates were available. Then it tried to install "Security Update for Flash Player (KB923789)". Unfortunately, the update failed. After trying several times without success, I searched the internet for the problem. It appeared that it had to do with the Adobe Micromedia Flash player. I then went to the Adobe web site and downloaded the latest flash player 9.0.28.0 and confirmed that it was installed.

From what I gathered once the latest flash player is installed the security update is no longer needed.

I still get the update alert icon and the install of the security update continues to fail. Any suggestions?

A security update for Flash Player means that Microsoft has found a vulnerability in Flash Player that can allow someone to remotely execute a malicious code on your computer. So installing the most recent version of Flash doesn't automatically mean that new version has the fix already in it, so you may still need it. Have you tried getting it manually from the MS Update site? You can try that here.

http://update.microsoft.com/windowsu....aspx?ln=en-us

It should automatically scan your machine for the latest updates and that failed one *should* be in the list. I know you might not think this will work either, but this is the only way I do my updates anymore. I have Automatic Updates inform me that updates are ready, but when I want to download them, I go directly to the Update Site, because that little yellow shield updater thing never works for me. I tell it to update and it just sits there, not downloading a darn thing. Going directly to the site works every time for me.

As another option (not necessarily the BEST option).....if you still can't find a way to install this update and just want it turned off so it quits bugging you, you can do that at the Update Site as well. After it scans, it will give you the option of Express Install or Custom Install. If you select Custom, it will bring up the list of updates and if you click on the + sign to expand the definition of the update, there will be a box in there that says something like "Don't show me this update again". If you check that, it shouldn't tell you that you need the update anymore. Actually getting the update would be the better option though, if you can get it.

Juppy,

Thamks for trying to help.

I have tried manual updates and must have now tried at least 10 times to update the flash player. No success. I would like to find out what the problem is and correct it rather than not installing the security update. However, I am lising patience.

Any help would be welcome.

When you installed the new version of Flash, did you totally delete the old version with their uninstaller? If not, try that. You can download the uninstaller by CLICKING HERE.

After running the uninstaller, go back to the Flash download page HERE again and try installing it one more time. After it installs correctly, go try that security update again.

EDIT: Oh yeah, one more thing.....try turning off any popup blockers in your browser when you download the Flash program too. That messed with me when I updated mine awhile back.

Juppy,

Thanlk you very much. The key was to uninstall the flash player and then reintall it. That did it.

What a relief.
