Exclamation DVD-ROM drive stopped working after upgrade and XP fresh load

I'm getting "D: access denied" when trying to access CDs or DVDs on my DVD-ROM drive. Autorun will not work either.

I just upgraded to an ABIT KN8 Ultra running an Athlon 64 3700+ with 1GB DDR400. I have an nVidia GeForce 7300LE. The DVD-ROM is a Lite-On LTR-12101B.

The drive worked normally before the upgrade and during the XP install. I have tried various things. I turned off Simple File Sharing and shared the drive. I made sure I was logged in as Administrator (the root account) and gave myself Full Access. I reloaded the DVD-ROM driver. I made sure there were no device conflicts. I loaded all ABIT motherboard drivers after I installed XP SP2.

I even did *another* fresh install of XP. The problem is present before, during and after any updates of drivers or Windows.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Are the files encrypted or otherwise secured from a previous account?

In your registry editor (START > RUN > regedit)
Go to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
And change allocatecdroms to 0.
While there, you might also want to check to see if allocatedasd and allocatefloppies is also 0.

HTH

I tried accessing an XP install CD and a couple different brand-new game install CDs with no luck. I haven't setup any encryption as this is a fresh install.

Again, no previous accounts. I formatted the drive before I loaded XP. I did try using the Administrator account and a regular account. Both had the problem.

I also Googled it! No help there. And I cruised the MS support area. Again...bupkis.

All values are already at 0.

Anything else I can try?

I was thinking about the IDE cable, but everything was working 100% fine before loading XP and on my old motherboard. I had no issues booting off the XP CD either. Smooth as silk!

It was the IDE cable!

I feel so tarded!! lol

I swapped the old cable with the new one that came with the motherboard and it works like a champ now.
