Question Can't boot (windows xp/cd)

Hi,

Today, my computer stopped working spontaniously...

It's a big problem cause I can't boot from the windows xp cd either. So I can't repair it using the CD...

It only boots DOS. I can't view the windows loader, before that the screen turns black.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to repair my computer?

Thanks a lot in advance!

What kind of computer is this? Home built or name brand?

What are the complete system specs for this computer? List all parts by brand and model including the power supply.

Try disconnecting the optical drives and see if the computer boots up normally.

First try 1 HD to boot from. If no change, try running the Maxtor diagnostic utility on each drive to make sure the drive are working.

I loosened the first HD (the windowsXP HD) and after that i could boot onto my windows xp cd. Now I am installing Windows XP on my second backup HD. Afterwards I'd like to try to switch between both HD's in order trying to repair the first HD.

Thanks for the help guys!
