XP Setup Problems.
hi, im having trouble with my xp home install setup.
i get to the menu where is configures setup, and then i can install setup on the unpartitioned space, and I do and it sets up on that unpartitioned space. then it explains to me that itll reboot in 15 seconds, and i can press enter to reboot, and when it reboots, it should continue with setup(i think that when it says continue with setup, it means get to the part with installation details, serial, etc.). but instead it just goes stright back to the setup menu after rebooting, and i have to do the whole thing over. even after redoing it, it still doesnt work. i tried taking the cd out after reboot, but it says it needs the cd to continue. help? |

After the restart, are you pressing Enter to boot from CD? If so, you shouldnt be doing it .. instead boot from the hard drive.
Alternately, after you press enter to restart .. enter the BIOS screen and set your hard drive as the first boot device. |

Still no fix to this problem.
The wierd thing is that after rebooting when it's installed anything, at the second boot menu(where it should talk about press any key to boot from CD), it says it cant find anything to boot from the IDE device, so if I take the CD out, it cant boot at all, if i leave it in, it just heads straight to setup. I really need help. |

Did you say that the installation is formatting the drive and setting up the partition as the c: drive and then installing the OS? I would first see if you can get a boot disk and get to the c: prompt. Ideally if you had BART PE, then things would be easier to see what the harddrive looked like. It almost appears that the drive is not properly formatted before the installation begins.

Same problem
I'm having the same exact problem. On the interactive tutorial, the problem starts after stage 8 and stage 9 never occurs. Instead, when I bypass the CD drive the screen just goes blank with no response from the computer. Ctrl/Alt/Del won't work and I have to shut off the power to the computer to restart.

Firecat, instead of adding your problem to similar theads (you have two), please start your own thread so we can give your problem individual attention.
