Clean install problem with XP Pro

Doing a clean install on a new HDD with XP Pro. Got the OS loaded (no updates yet) and have installed the MoBo drivers and the audio drivers only. The problems:

1. Bios will not show the right clock speed of the AMD processor at startup. Previously it would show as an AMD Athlon 1600 and now it just shows as an AMD 1050 Mhz.

2. System takes 4 to 5 minutes to shut down after clicking the button.

Never had either of these happen before. Had to do a clean install on a new HDD as the old one had a boot sector problem and was not recognized at startup. Haven't installed anything else yet but the OS and the board drivers. Board is a SOYOK7V Dragon

What does the BIOS show as the FSB? I had that board previously and know you have to have the FSB jumpers set correctly on the motherboard for it to register the correct speed.

FSB is set to 100. I have had this board running for about 5 years now with the correct CPU shown in the start screen.

Had to put in a new HDD today and did not change anything in the BIOS except for the boot drive sequence. Now it will not read the correct CPU. Still running an older Athlon 1600 XP until I do a new build next spring.

Got it all working. Set FSB to 133 and got that solved.

Shutdown just started working better and better the more I used it and is fine now. ???

Since the motherboard is 5 years old you might want to change the motherboard battery if you haven't already done so.

Thanks, already did that. Funny thing about the battery, the first year or so I had to put in a new battery about every 6 weeks or so. After about a year, never had another problem with it.

Gonna do a new build in the spring and just trying to keep this one going for another 4 months or so. First time i ever had a HDD failure with any of my systems or those that I had built for others. Lost a few non-essential pictures and miscellaneous stuff as my last backup of partitions was in May. Word from the NOW wise - BACK UP THOSE DRIVES.
