Question XP Activation, Activation Denied!

I just replaced my HDD (80 GB with a 160 GB) for a larger one. It took me forever to copy everything to the new one using DLT from WD .But everytime I turn on the PC a warning box appeared advising me of "counterfited program installed". I formated my HDD and started fresh. Now the problem is this; Microsoft does not want to activate my product (XP) because of the many times my product key has been activated. its only been 4 times : 2 HDD going bad, the 80 GB that I just replaced and the new one. What do I need to do before calling MS to dispute whatever they say? Thanks.

The only thing I know of is to call Microsoft, get a human on the phone and to plead your case. Be nice of course because they have the yea or nay. It's a tough situation that we do not own the software on our own computers forcing some people to have to plead with Microsoft.

The other alternative is to buy a new OS license OEM which can be obtained for under $100.

I've called MS a few times already in regard to this. Half the time they don't even ask me why I'm reinstalling. Just be honest and tell them that your hardware broke and that you were just reinstalling Windows onto the same machine.

Yep, I've had to call microsoft a few times after multiple activations. They've simply asked me the reason for the re-install, and asked me to confirm that the copy is installed on one computer only, then provided me with an activation code.

I've phoned Microsoft a fair few times...sometimes more than once in a day and they have never quizzed me over it!
