legal Win XP

I've just finished building a new box for my son, and am awaiting arrival of a legit win xp professional full oem version. I have a copy of xp which I believe to be not legit can I use this just now and not activate until the new version arrives and then use the serial numbers from it to register?

Should work if both copies are XP Pro. Once you get the new disk, use The Magical Jelly Bean to change the Prod Key to the one from the new disk. Then you should be safe to Activate. Worse case, you would have to do a Repair Install using the new disk.
