Boom XP Pro wont load

Ok here's the problem...

The other week ago I had some major problem with windows and I tried repairing it. didn't work, so I did a reinstall without reformatting. That fixed my problem, but after installing I keep getting messages about updating to SP2, I tried to not look at it because I didn't feel like updating and didn't have the time. As the time went on and I have some programs that need SP2 I ended up updating. This is where we are at now. It downloaded fine no problem, and then installed fine no problem. It went fine, so I thought it was ok. I clicked on the "Restart Now" it restarted went throw everything like normal. When I get to the Black Windows XP loading page with the little blue bar. It just sits there with the little blue bar going and going and going like the little energizer bunny. I let it sit for like 3 hrs nothing, it won't let me start up in safe mode and it will not let me start up in last working settings. I did the CHKDSK /R noting. I even fixed boot. What can I do I am open for any info. Please help.

Thanks,
Astokes

Maybe you have a corrupt boot partition. Try rebooting your PC with the XP disk in the optical drive. You may need to reinstall XP.

That sounds like a hardware issue. Could you post your computer system specifications?

You aren't able to go into safe mode, what happens when you try to enter safe mode?
If you are able to enter safe mode ,just go to start--->control panel---> add/remove program,

their you will see winxp sp2 , just uninstall it and see if that works. Even after that if you find problem when loading winxp, then it is a hardware issue. Their might be a hardware driver causing problems during boot up.

Let us know what happens or what messege do you get when you chose safe mode?

Were you having any problem in any hardware or in WinXP OS, before downloading and installing SP2?

As far as I understand ,it is not a hardware issue,
It is better if you use WinXP CD with built in SP2, sometimes when you download SP2 from internet, it causes problems.

Try formating your partition where WinXP is installed and clean Install WinXP from a WinXP CD that has built in SP2.

It sounds like the answer to your problem is hinted at by the computer not recognising your processor as what it should be.

CPU- AMD Athlon xp 1800+ <<<<----- This is what my pc reads
(AMD Athlon XP 2400+ Thoroughbred 2.0GHz Socket A Processor Model AXDA2400DKV3C - OEM) <<<---that is what it is

You need to go into BIOS and set the proper frequency for the CPU you are using. Having the CPU frequency or voltage set wrong will cause all kinds of erratic behavior.
