Windows won't boot

I own an emachine, after i changed my mother board with fox 661MXXpro sis 661. I did the recovery cd. I see windows xp on the start, than i choose the language english. It reboot than i got this message:
windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\Windows\System32\config\System
You can attempt to repair this by starting windows set up using the original setup CD-ROM
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.
Any help please.

Is the recovery CD a hard drive image or and actual windows install disc?

Changing the mobo changes significant hardware and XP will no longer boot. Easy way to correct this is to use any XP Home SP2 CD. Boot from it and do a Repair Install. This will keep all personal files and programs intact. When it asks for the Product key, use the one on the eMachines case. When the repair is complete, install all the mobo drivers using the mobo disk. Sometimes you are able to Activate windows again with no problem but sometimes you may have to call MS. Just follow the Activation procedure on the screen.
