I wanted to run System Restore and create a restore point, but all I got was an error message saying:
System Restore Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. I tried to search the Microsoft website for answers, and I had a few answers that looked hopeful, but but system restore still displays the same message. What should I do? Has anyone encountered this before?

Hmm. Well, I don't know if it counts, but I have Windows XP, not ME. And, I looked in the MSCONFIG, and I don't have StateManager in the Startup tab, but neither does my laptop, but it still can load system restore.

Oops! Guess I need to read a little more detail. My apologies. Let's see what else we can find.
Here's some items to check. Found this at a MS site. Some Q & A's about System Restore. Q. What should I do if System Restore does not work? A. Try these steps if System Restore does not appear to work: 1. Ensure the System Restore service is running. For more information, see: How can I verify that the System Restore services are running on my machine? 2. Verify that you have enough free space on all your drives as required by System Restore. If the free space on any partition system restore is monitoring falls below 50 MB, System Restore will suspend and purge out all restore points to free up disk space. It will automatically reactivate when 200 MB+ free space is available. For more information, see How the System Restore Tool Handles Hard-Disk Space Usage. 3. Examine event logs for any system restore-related errors that could help you identify the problem. Here's the link to the entire page. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro.../faqsrwxp.mspx Last edited by Panama Red; 11-29-2006 at 04:31 PM. |

That's the same page found already. And I followed those things to the letter. And still my System Restore is not opening, if I even have it.
