Totally messed up reinstall

Hi guys. Noob here so please be gentle. I came home from a day at work to find a blue screen on my comp. It said something about a memory_management error. I rebooted the comp and it came up a couple of times and then stopped rebooting all together. In my silly desperation, I decided to reinstall my operating system. Now I am getting errors in reinstall about tourP.exe and ks.sys not copying. When I hit enter to retry, it goes no where. Then if I skip, I see other files that will not copy at first but then they do after I retry. Any help would be great. The computer I'm using is one that I built myself at the beginning of the year and I have not had any problems until now. I probably screwed something up because this is the first comp I've ever built. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Can you give us a complete list of the components you used to build the machine including brands and model numbers?
How many sticks of ram have you got installed?

The bad install sounds like a faulty stick of ram, does the ram report correctly in the BIOS screen? have you tried the install with only one stick of ram installed?

I haven't tried to boot with one stick of RAM but I will have to try tonight when I get home. How do I tell if it is showing correctly in BIOS?

If your BIOS is set to boot normally (not fast boot) you will get the black screen with white lettering giving you the checking sequence for all your installed hardware, harddrives, optical drives and the like, you will also see a tally counter counting your memory.

I don't see that when I restart..but when I went to the setup menu, it showed that I had over 2000 MB of RAM. But I couldn't select it. Should I just try to replace one of the sticks?

Try to do the reinstall using one stick at a time, two reasons, one you could have a faulty stick of ram and two Windows gets a tad confused during an install if there is too much ram installed.

How many sticks of ram did you have installed when you did the installion of Windows?
Is Windows fully installed now and is it showing all of your ram?
What is the problem with the internet connection?

I have two 1GB sticks in and Windows is seeing it all. I am completely installed but I missed a driver for my Ethernet port so I couldn't get on the internet. When I left for work this morning, it was updating one of my games, so it seems to be working. Thanks again for all of your guidance.

My usual sequence of events for an install is :
1. Install Windows
2. Install motherboard drivers from motherboard CD
3. Install (previously downloaded to a pendrive) the latest version of AVG and Ewido
4. AVG, Ewido and Windows updates
This way the majority of the hardware is working correctly via the motherboard CD and the machine is virus protected before going on the internet for the first time.
Do you have the driver CD that came with your motherboard?
