Missing mtrr.vxd file

I'm trying to help out a buddy. Working with an old compaq presario 4640 running win 95. He wants this computer fixed so he can give it to the widow of a recently deceased friend so her and her kids can get online...
Upon startup, Says mtrr.vxd file is missing and will only boot in safe mode. Either someone deleted mcafee safe and sound, or direct x 5.0 off of this computer. I need a copy of this file to make this computer work and I do not have a win 95 disc. If someone has direct x 5.0 or safe and sound I think i can just gat away with reinstalling that. Any suggestions? I could go to windrivers.com and buy it but I AM SUPER BROKE AND i'M DOING THIS AS A FAVOR SO DON'T REALLY WANNA SPEND MONEY. Can someone please help? Any suggestions besides throw this thing out?

Win95 is no longer a viable OS to use online. You cannot install IE6 on 95 and anything from IE4 through 5.5 is not stable on 95, you would have to use Opera or Firefox. See if you can find someone willing to donate a copy of Win98SE, the 4640 has enough horsepower to run it (P2-266, 48 ram, 4gb) and the Compaq site has all the drivers available.
