Very bad problem--> need help Restoring

We have an E-Machine T6410 computer. Thing is, we can't even boot it up because of an error message now of "missing a Hal.Dll"

Now, the PC was loaded with an OEM of Windows XP. We were thinkin that if we bought a new Windows XP OEM from Newegg , could we somehow Repair install from the new one?

I would call the tech Support but we don't have the warranty anymore and god knows how much they'll charge us. Could I do this?

PLEASE HELP because my mom is very mad and sad at the same time. She can't access the photos and important things and she doesn't want to wipe it all out. Man, will it work?

Before you do anything, remove the drive and either slave it into another computer or put it in an external USB housing to rescue her files. Then you can play with it - best thing will probably be to use the eMachines restore CD after testing the hard drive with manufacturer's diagnostics.
