Cant stream windows media player Need Help

This is the longest running problem I have ever had without being able to find a solution for it. When i'm on a website trying to stream a windows media video it will just stay black and it will say ready on the bottom of the player.

I have downloaded the newest media player for the last 12 months, and i'm just not sure what happened that made my computer not stream them anymore. It in fact DID work just fine previously but I have somehow just ignored the problem the past year after not being able to resolve it.

It must be some sort of firewall issue or something of that sort but I just cant figure it out. For an example of a video I cannot stream, just try and stream ANY video at gamespot.

I am DYING to figure this out. Thanks in advance.

what OS r u running?

are you behind a router? or are you connected directly to the modem?

try these steps:
Go to
Tools>Options>Performance, and under Video accelerator click Advanced, now just turn off " Use Video Mixing Renderer"

Geez, im sorry I completely forgot. Im running WinXP, and i'm connected to a router right now. I tried your suggestion and nothing. It will just say ready, then if I click the play button it will say opening media for half a second then back to ready but no video.

Try installing a codec pack. The K-Lite Standard should suffice.

installed that codec pack and nothing. As far as I know, all my codecs were up too date previously.

Also, last night I could get it to stream a couple times out of maybe 30 tries. It usually just stays at a black screen saying ready at the bottom. I never gets to the part at the bottom where it says buffering then starts to play.

It really seems as if it is somehow being blocked ... Im just not sure.
