whats the error you get?
have you upgraded any software, or added anything to your computer recently? This only happens while playing FEAR or when you are using Microsoft Word? if you think its a heat issue, download speed fan and check the processor temps

If it happened when playing games only I would have suggested the graphics card could be over-heating - since you don't mention the make/model it is difficult to offer advice on that.
As suggested double check all fans - open the case and give it a wee spring clean: dust not only acts as an insulator but also hampers the air flow of fans as it ruins their dynamics. |

when you open the case there is a sticker on the psu that should tell you the brand, model, and wattage.

Delta is high quality and 250 watts *should* be sufficient for that system and video card.

i cleaned out the computer (fans aren't working so hard any more )and put a computer fan in to cool the graphics card; set the game to take more processor usage and so far i haven't restarted in a day and the mem test do i use the binary or the other one that doesn't require the floppy to test if the memory has any thing to do with it

If you don't have a floppy drive, get the bootable ISO and make a CD with it.

You will need Nero, Roxio, or Sonic - you can't burn the iso with the builtin XP burner. It has to be opened as an image then burned.

No, you open Sonic, and tell the wizard you need to burn a CD from an image - then browse to the iso.

ok i have new information on the error its a stop error that causes the restart and how windows handles the error is it can't and restarts. and cause is and what it looks like is a unknown A message appears on a blue screen with error code information (for example: 0x0000001E, KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED)
microsoft says send error reports until microsoft anylists can or (when they get the time which if im the only one it might be a while i looked at the troubleshooter microsoft says it could be badly written drivers and thats the only thing i came up with that applies to me heres the site of the troubleshooter http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=322205 so any suggestions on fixing this ps this mostly happens when i am running fear on multiplayer and i got the setting correct for fear |

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED in what specific module? Win32k.sys? Aspi32.sys?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/294728 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307128 Some other module? Search Google for KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED name of module. |

so i will take these are drivers or software so i can't give you exact info right now but i do have a free ware program that might describe the first one as a Backdoor.NTHack virus
and it might be ASPI but im not sure untell i can get on my computer but what i find is strange is my computer restarts in the middle of the game normally and has no trouble shutting down turning on and restarting only trouble with restart is after it just randonmly restarts while i play fear but i will find out in about 3:00 pm today ok i defintly think its the Aspi32.sys becuase microsoft says it only applies to microsoft home edition and i don't have windows server or any server so Win32k.sys can be ruled out so when i get home i will follow the directions of http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307128 and check if i have the correct version of the ASPI Last edited by piff263; 12-15-2006 at 12:00 PM. |

What you need to do FIRST is read the next bluescreen more thoroughly and see what module it's referencing.

All you need is what's immediately after KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED. It will SAY "STOP 0x0000001e KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED in win32k.sys" or something like that.

ok i can't find the module i thougt about taking the easy way out and upgrading but as you said i will wait in mean while i will try to figure out this restarting problem or deal with it for about 3 months or longer depends on what comes up
ok so i went to microsoft i can't seem to find usb drivers and do you think another harddrive for all pagfile memory would have alot to deal with this problem because i read that my computer is trying to do two things at once and causing unusal problems to arise i have another harddive for pagefile because it seems one of the only ways and can make fear run properly ps on that module part i reread what you said and i will go find out in about a hour or so and i will hope it restarts while playing to find out |

I'm sorry, I can't follow what you are trying to say. Please take some time to write proper sentences and make your points in a logical progression. Thank you.
