What Is Goin On With My Computer?
alright, so i was on my computer today, this morning... when out of nowhere, it just shut down. and played some music threw the back of my computer... not real music... like "Dooo, Doooo, Dooo, Doooo, Do" and thats it. then the whole thing shut down.
then i restarted it, and got threw maybe the first screen of reboot info (Before the windows start) and it did the same thing. cannot even get to the option of starting it up in safe mode. when it happened, i wasnt downloading anything, havent downloaded anything in the past week at least. and i have Spyware Doctor and AVG free running all the time. has anyone had this problem, OR can anyone tell me how to fix it? i dont have my windows disk here, its at home, i'm a college student, its the weekend before finals, and my final paper is on there. along with all my notes from 2 of my classes. so if you have any ideas, i'll try just about anything. |

What kind of computer is this? Home built or name brand?
What are the specs? Did you open up the case to see if the CPU heatsink is full of dust? If the insides of the computer is really dusty you need to clean it out. That "music" sounds like an overheating alarm to me. Cricket

How long ago did your Dad build that computer? And does anyone do any housekeeping on it (like cleaning the insides)?

yea, he built it for me the summer before this past one. and yea i rarely do "Housekeeping" i just did now though, about how often do i need to clean out the inside?
but anyways, you were right it was overheating. the fan on my processor stopped working... and so i went and got a new one, and i'm gonna put it on there tonight. and i went ahead and cleaned it all out, with some canned air. but yea, how often should i do that? |

If the computer sits on the floor and the room has carpet, check the insides about every 3 to 4 months. If the comp is on a desk, 6 months or so.
