Unhappy XP Home recycles,no boot

System:
Cpu( Intel P4 630, 3.0g 90NM, 2m) and stock fan, 2 x 1g Corsair 240 pin,DDR2 Dimm, they are positioned in sockets A1, B1, Video card Diamond Radeon X550 PCI-E 256 SB, Brand new replacement PSU 450 smartpower 2.0 from Antec for the one that was in the case.

Problem: Had hard time back paging on comcast and internet ex. Come to think about it ,I've had this problem since I did a windows repair. Error said to go to tool and diagnosis internet connection. I went to comasts deck top dr and went in it and click repair internet connections and repair internet exp. setting. It ran through the repair and said to reboot to allow setting to take place. It rebooted by it self and then it just went into a boot cycle. Gets to Windows where the small window shows progress in loading , no show of progress then it just restarts. Tried to go to safe mode, went into it and selected safe mode. Clicked on it and multiple reading came down the page and then it went into reboot cycle. This is a windows repair because of change in mobo from intel to above mobo. Does this sound like I have to do a Windows repair again. I got into Bios and eveything seem to be the same as before and has both hd reconized. boot sequence is cd,floppy,hd.
Can't believe having more problems with this computer. Can anyone give me an idea what to do next? Thanks Jim

Had made a backup cd with Acronis about a week ago. So I loaded it and went to fix or corrupted disc. Clicked on it and it came back with can't find hd's. Tried couple of times no luck.

Yes, I'd do another repair reinstall. Use an XP CD that already has SP2 incorporated. Disconnect all peripherals and all USB devices (external drives, card readers, etc.) except keyboard and mouse.

I thought you would say that! Think the desk dr did something to the system?

I understand this correctly, you have changed the mobo to another one. Personally, I always re-install Windows after a major upgrade like that. I know you can un-install the motherboard drivers and do a repair of Windows, but I never find it a suitable solution.

Also, if the image was for the other motherboard it might go some way to explain why it didn't work.

My advice, fresh installation.

Well I'm in the processes of doing a repair, I have this message:

The file 'asms' on windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 CD is needed.
Type the path when the file is located, and then click ok.
In the box is GOBAL ROOT\DEVICE\CDROM\I386
The windows xp cd is in the dvd drive and it has the service pack included. What can I type in the window. Jim
This error has to do with the cd rom not being reconized by windows.

Desk Dr is a program provided by comcast for quick repair and installs. It also takes a snap shot of your settings so it can be reinsalled quickly when you loose connection.

I think it may be time to run hard drive and ram diagnostics.

www.memtest.org

Hard drive diags from the hard drive manufacturer.

What I have done so far is send a queary to microsoft on the problem and I went and loaded windows on to the new martor 200g hd drive I got from a rma from maxtor. Windows loaded with no problems and I'm in the processes of down loading sp2 updates. As soon as that is done I'm going to run diag on the hd and use it as a back up, hopefully! If I can I'll copy all the persomnal files to the new hd and see how things go from there! I'll keep you posted.
Jim

I had done a memtest 86 right before the all this happen.
