xp install help pls

My pc has been touchy for a while so I thought I'd try a reinstall or repair of XP. I did not remove the installed XP. Now I can't install -repair or anything. It is an OEM version with the sp2 included. No matter what I do it keeps asking for an admin password and I don't have one or remember it. It does not get to the desktop. What do I do??

Thanks

Don

did you try leaving the password blank.

to run a repair you don't need the admin password, follow this:

yes. My passwords are simple for me to remember. My admin pw has always been my name.

You don't choose repair the first time, you choose setup. Please review the thread. You are being presented with the emergency console login.

Even if I choose setup I get the admin login screen--even with safe mode. Listen, I don't doubt for a minute that I did the wrong thing by installing xp over previous copy of xp. But so far the only thing I get and the FIRST thing I get is that d$%#@ login. How can I format the drive-erase all info and start from scratch. I don't have anything on it that I need to worry about keeping. I just want to make it useable again. It's too nice of a case to smash (yellow Coolermaster Wavemaster, SLI 7800gts, xp 64 4200, asus an8sli, 535w Enermax) I thinking I should just get a new hdd and start over, put the original in as a slave and then clean it up. 80gb is only 50.00.

You could also remove the hard drive, slave it to another computer and format it through control panel, administrative tools, computer management, disk management.

Reinstall it in the original computer, boot from the XP cd and choose to install a fresh copy of XP.

Or you could make a Darik's Boot and Nuke or Killdisk floppy and use that to zero fill the drive. Both those are on the Ultimate Boot CD too.
