New System with problems ...

A month ago I put together the following system:

Board: Intel Corporation D945GPM AAD21427-106
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: Intel Corp. NT94510J.86A.4034.2006.1109.0935 11/09/2006
IOMEGA DVDRW4216INP-A [CD-ROM drive]
LITE-ON DVDRW SHW-160P6S [CD-ROM drive]

Hitachi HDS721616PLA380 [Hard drive] (164.69 GB) -- drive 0
WDC WD2500KS-00MJB0 [Hard drive] (250.06 GB) -- drive 1
WDC WD2500KS-00MJB0 [Hard drive] (250.06 GB) -- drive 2

Slot 'J6H1' has 1024 MB (serial number 0x00000000)
Slot 'J6H2' has 1024 MB (serial number 0x00000000)
Slot 'J6J1' has 1024 MB (serial number 0x00000000)
Slot 'J6J2' has 1024 MB (serial number 0x00000000)

I recently start having problems trying to plug in USB devices (memory sticks, ipods and external drives).
First windows recognizes the devises however it fails to install them. I get the typical msgs "found new hardware" ..."ipod mini" ... "welcome the new hardware found wizard ...install the hardware automatically or select a specific location".
Since itunes and ipod is already installed, I keep selecting the automatic method, it searches for the drivers and then it fails to install it. I get the same msgs with memory sticks and external drives

Erlier I tried to re-install windows and as soon as I boot up with the CD I get the msg “there are no hard drives installed”. I actually have 3 internal SATA hard disk drives that currently working fine.

My questions are:

1. Is there a way to fix the problem with the USB devises without re-installing windows?
2. If I have to re-install windows, do I need any special drivers pre-installed so the SATA drives can be recognized by Windows?

Thanks for your input.
Regards
Chris

1. Remove all USB controllers and hubs from device manager, reboot.
2. You need the Intel matrix storage controller floppy disk. You press F6 at the beginning of Setup.
