NTLDR Missing?
I recently built a new server for my company.
Specs are: C2D E6300 Intel 946DGIS 1GB Patriot DDR2 667 Seagate 7200.10 320GB Lite On DVD-RW I re-loaded an existing version of Win2K Pro updated to SP4. It worked fine for about a month. Came to work this morning and had this message on the screen: NTLDR Missing Press CRTL ALT DEL to restart following those instructions, same error message. The machine does post, went into the BIOS looking for errors or problems and found none. The HDD is reconized, the DVDRW is there, etc... Any ideas? Need a repair install? |

That would be a good start.
And your sure that there isnt a floppy or CD in any of your drives? Sometimes it will boot to your optical or floppy if your hard drive is not set as 1st boot device.

well, I couldn't get any of those options to work. Never made an emergency CD and it wouldn't copy any of those files.
Since I had a complete backup and restoring is just copying files, I'm just reformatting and then installing sp4 and then updating and drivers and UGH>>> Why does this happen? I do need to update the BIOS, but is there anything else that might have caused it--like something wrong with my build? |

Run memory and hard drive diagnostics just to make sure you don't have a problem there.

Well, got everything re-installed. I zero filled the hard disk and started over--and it works like a champ again.
I'll run those diagnostics and make sure it isn't the hard disk. Thanks for the help everyone! Oh--is the Seatools app on my ultimate boot CD ok? This is a 7200.10. I re-downloaded the UBCD yesterday and made a new one. Are those diagnostics model specific or should it just work ok? |

It should work fine. So should any of the memory testing apps on the UBCD.
