Inaccessible_boot_device

I decided to run the chkdsk tool on my Win 2000 desktop to see if there where any problems with my harddrive, and windows stated that it needed exculsive access to the drive... thus chkdsk would be performed upon the next reboot.

When I rebooted, chkdsk started doing its work and was finishing up without finding any major problems. On it's last step (verifying free space) it got to 94% and then stayed there for over an hour. I suspected that it was hung, so I hit the reset button.

Durring the subsiquent boot up I get the dreaded "blue screen of death" with the error:

*** STOP: 0X0000007B (0x02090910,0xC0000102,0x00000000,0x00000000)
INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

I tried booting off the W2K boot disk and using the repair options, but I have the feeling that I messed up the partition on the drive.

Can any kind soul help clarify what I'm facing here, and what I might try to resolve it?

Thank you.

Thank you for the link, but I was able to fix the issue via another method.

I removed the drive, changed the jumper setting to "slave", and installed it as a secondary drive on another W2K computer.

I then ran the chkdsk program which found and fixed the problems. After that, I just changed the jumpter back, reinstalled the drive, and my original computer booted right up.

I didn't expect it to be that simple, but I'm not going to complain!
