I recently began seeing a login identity box when I started Windows. It had my first name in it. Since I did not know what it was I just clicked cancel. I was able to use computer and access internet. I am not able to access e-mail though. I have Outlook Express. When I click cancel it will not allow access.
Does anyone have any suggesstions? I did try System Restore but it told me it was unable to restore. System has been running just fine. Thanks Phil |

In your Control Panel > User Accounts untick "use the welcome screen". Does that make any difference? Since everything is working except for Outlook Express, have you checked to make sure OE has the proper credentials to recieve your email? Tools>Accounts> Mail> Properties and check all the info.

Johanna,
Thank you for your suggestions. Over Christmas I decided to try and restore via Safe Mode since nothing else worked. That did the trick. When I went to shut system down it downloaded my windows updates as usual and installed. The next day when running the system the Identity Login box was back. So I restored again just now via Safe Mode. I changed updates to ask me. I just downloaded the updates minus the ones pertaining to Messenger and Media Player that did not apply to me. I will shut system down and restart and see what happens. I did as you suggested though in User Accounts. It sounds like it has something to do with one or more of the updates. I noticed one of them does pertain to OE. What do you think? Thanks Phil |
