low disk space
Hi--- when I boot up I now get a low disk space message that says: you are running out of disk space on hp recovery (D) to free space on this drive by deleting old or unnecessary files click here. when I click it shows office set up files, recycle bin,and catalog files for the content indexer to delete to free up space.then it says by deleting these files you will gain 0 space. I 've just started getting this msg for the last couple of days. disk D is the recovery drive and I havent put in files in there and couldnt anyway. Can anybody explain why I'm getting this msg and is there any way to get rid of it,Thanks---B0b---

Go into My Computer and hover the mouse over the D drive. In a small yellow box it will tell you the amount of disk space that is used and the amount that is available.
The D: partition is probably filled with System Restore points.

The best thing to do would be to, go to the D: drive and list the files in date order, then see if you can see any files that have been created recently (using the "details" view would make this easier). |

Just double click on My Computer and then on D:. Click on the View menu at the top to switch to details view.
If your D: drive only has 48MB free from over 5GB, it is definitely too full, at 97%. Hard drives should not be more then 80% full for normal operation. They bog down, hence your error message. Let us know what that D: drive is full of so we can help clear out what isn't needed.

If it IS restore points, you want to right click on "my computer", properties, system restore. Highlight drive D and lower the slider on the system restore tab until it reads about 4%. System restore defaults to using 12% of the drive for restore points.

Leave the restore partition alone and just disable the notification.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/285107 NOTE: If you have not already done so, use the HP utility to burn a set of recovery CD's! |
