Have you tried a system restore back to before you installed IE7?

I hope that you have corectly uninstalled IE7 ( http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/...t/default.mspx ) and if you did I would run SFC and CHKDSK/F just to check integrity of yours files.

Question. Does the crash happen when using only certain programs, like the IM, or when downloading or listening to music. There may be some conflict going on. Let us know what you are doing when the problem occurs, we may be able to pin point it. Also, have you checked event viewer to see if you could get any clues? |

Before we go asking all these questions we first need to know what the BSOD read.
If we know what it says, we may be able to help. If nothing else you can always format your pc and do a clean install. |

Hi Chazell,
What edition of XP are you using? Home or Pro? Have you SP 2 installed & fully patched? Have you installed any new software / hardware very recently. We know you installed IE7. This info is needed to try to best determine the problem. There is a known stability problem in what was the latest version of iTunes software. I don’t use iTunes myself but there is a newer version available which addresses this problem, apparently, so I recommend you uninstall & use this new one instead, if you’re not already doing so. If this mean backing up your tunes then be sure to do so PRIOR to uninstalling the older version. Now that BSOD. Can you see it or does the PC reboot automatically when it happens? If it does then you need to do the following so the BSOD remains on the screen: Right click ‘My Computer’ & click ‘Properties’. Then click the ‘Advanced’ tab & in the ‘Startup & Recovery’ section click ‘Settings’. In this new window look in the ‘System Failure’ section & UNCHECK ‘System Restart’ check box. Click OK on everything back to the desktop & reboot. Should the PC crash again with a BSOD then the BSOD will remain on screen for you to see. Note down about the first six or seven lines (or as much as you can) & this may give some indication as to the problem. I hope this help you out & get back to us. |
