Windows 2003 Server vs Windows XP Pro
I know -- silly topic
I currently have Windows XP Pro I am in need of a format (long story) I don't own XP Pro on retail disc anymore however I have Windows Server 2003 if I format and use this insted of Windows XP will my games (HL2, CSS and other programs) still operate or am I becoming limited to 'server' only programs. BTW this will be a fresh install as you cannot upgrade. I wouldn't mind using it - I might learn from it and it's only till about March (when I build a dx10/vista box) Thanks guys |

The server OS's run some programs and games but not all. You would have to check with the software manuals or websites, or try it out yourself. I think most things should work but 2003 server isn't meant to be a workstation. Servers are usually turned and not "used". They sit there and that is why they are usually stable because no is playing games or browsing the net with them. But hey, like everything I learnt, just try it out and see what happens. If it doesn't work out that well then just format the hard drive.

OH yeah. Do you still have the serial key for windows? If you do then you can borrow the XP cd from sumbody or you can download it and use it. It's only illegal if you don't use a valid serial key. YOU MUST USE YOUR OWN PERSONAL SERIAL KEY. You may use burnt or borrowed copies only if you use the serial key that you have.
