I have a PC from a customer who spilt coffee on her keyboard and bought a replacement. The replacement worked for a very short time and now no keyboards will work when trying to get into Windows XP Pro - customer has a log on screen.
Both USB & PS2 keyboards have been tried I can't get into safe mode or safe mode with command prompt because of the log on screen. I tried Last Known configuration that worked and still no good. Keyboard still doesn't work. The keyboards do work if I go into BIOS settings. I tried loading them to default settings and still no good. Customer does not have a copy of Windows XP Pro on disk |

Hi Teresa
Since the keyboards work well enough to get into the Bios, while in there, make sure that the "Legacy USB" setting(s) for keyboards and mice are set to "Enabled". Then try again with a keyboard plugged into the USB port directly below the PS/2 keyboard port. I wouldn't expect it to be a damaged-port problem, if the keyboards work OK in the Bios Setup. But, just to rule that out, you could try adding in a PCI USB 2.0 card & plug a keyboard into that. There's the slight possibility of motherboard damage, of course, anytime liquids are involved - since an overvoltage could travel along the wire. Best of luck . . . Gary |
