I built my own pc and for a year now i have been dealing with a error resulting in a crash. This last christmas i got a new processor (4600+ x2 amd) i hoped this would stop the error but to no avail; it did not fix the problem. If this is any help i wrote down the secret widows codes...
Machine_check_exception Stop: 0x0000009c (0x00000004, 0x805405F0, 0xb2000004, 0x000700f0f) ??? help if any one can |

That's a hardware error and could be just about anything. I Googled it and found quite a variety of "cures" ranging from loose CMOS batteries, to needing a BIOS update, to wireless PCI cards, bad cables, etc.
I'd start with a BIOS update if yours version is fairly old. If that doesn't work, I'd update all drivers. Still problems? then pull everything but the vid card and memory and see how the system works. Then install everything one at a time and test things out for a while before adding the next device in. |

Have you tried to boot in safe mode?

Some mobos let you update online, but since you are crashing that would not be recommended. Even with a floppy, I'd run it for a while to make sure you won't crash... a bad BIOS can wreck your mobo.
PS: you got another post in there... Corsair Value Select RAM is good stuff if that's what you have, but by all means run a memory checker on it. memtest86 and DocMemory are two good ones. Last edited by TwoRails; 12-28-2006 at 11:45 AM. |

Well, it sure could be a PS problem: "600W" doesn't necessarily cut it if the unit is not high quality or it's having problems. Starting a systems puts the biggest strain on the PS as everything is powering up at the same time. What brand is the unit?

Sadly, they do not have a good reputation. One quick reference is:
http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195 which lists Ultras under the "bad" column... |
