fqpissed ME Wont Shut Down-just restarts

Hi From Texas!
Well,Well,----a shut down problem. I have Windows ME. When I went to Start.Shutdown,it hangs to a blank-dark bluish screen. If I wait at that time , it will restart. It is as though it stays mostly in a restart option.-----------There are a few times it will automatically shutdown the computer as usual, just leaving me to turn of the monitor by hand. Here are some things to tell you: I have had dialup ever since Dad bought the computer in 2000. About two months ago , Dad went to At&T DSL. I love it for it is faster. I never had this problem with dial up. I have tried different things to solve the problem.-- I have closed all programs and then try Start- Shutdown.----I have first tried turning off the DSL button which is on the little modem and THEN tried the shut down, didn't work. NOTE: I have to ALWAYS turn on the DSL button as I start up the computer are the computer won't pick it up. Many times I have forgotten to turn on the DSL button. That made me have start ALL over starting the computer because the computer did not pick it up. Now, each time I start the computer , it has to run Scan Disk.------------------I am low on disk space on THIS C: Drive. I have 231 MB left on this 5 gig C: drive. Don't know if that could be it.----------------------Here is my computer: Hewlett Packard Pavilion 674 Mz--512 RAM - 20 Gigs. I have Partition Magic and have 4 other Drives on------------------------So Guys and Gals-----see what you can come up with--------------------------Don

PS: I won't be back on computer till 2: AM Central--I have to share this home computer

First thing check the BIOS to make sure all the "Wake On" with's are disabled.
Have you uninstalled your dialup modem software?
Try removing the actual dial up modem.
What antivirus and malware scanners are you using? you could have a "phone home" application running.

You have to clear some space on C - you need at least 15% free space. You probably have a pretty corrupted Windows installation by now.

HI glc
rjfvillarosa

On Friday , I will address the information you guys have said. I have so much to do on the computer. I have about 100 e-mails to check out and information I need to find for members of my Family. I will have to put up with it till I do what you say. O!-i still have my CompuServe that I use , but it comes in with the AT&T DSL. It it proxy CompuServe uses now ?. I love CompuServe and told Dad that I still wanted it and he said yes. We contacted CompuServe and they told me to delete ALL phone numbers used on their dial up. They lowered our price to $4.00 a month. I guess they just hop on the back of the AT&T DSL that way and we no longer use their dial up. To me , CompuServe is just so great . I tried AOL and didn't like it as much as CServe.I love their splash screen home page set up.---------so , I will try these things you say sometime late Friday night.--------------Thanks Don late 4:00 AM central
