CRASH Dell HDD Formatted, No Longer Recognized

Hi,

Windows XP crashed on my Dell Dimension 4700 and I hooked it up to another computer to recover my data, everything went fine then I formatted it to re-install windows. I put it back in the Dimension and tried install Windows XP. It told me there was no HDD found, the BIOS had not recognized it. I used Dell's recovery partition and it did recognize the HDD but when I tested it it gave me read errors, I know there is nothing wrong with the drive though. Also, when I enabled all drives in the BIOS and booted, it gave me the message

"Loading PBR descriptor 2...Done.

NTLDR is missing
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"

What can I do to make the BIOS recognize the drive so I can install Windows?

Thanks in Advance, Patrick O.

First, did you change the jumper settings when you put the drive in another machine? Make sure the jumper is set to CS (Cable select)--assuming this is an IDE drive.

You may end up needing to zero fill it to make that error go away.

Sorry, I should have mentioned its a SATA drive, and my BIOS actually does recognize it now. It just still gives me that NTLDR error. I'm going to try installing XP again.

The hard drive had been formatted and the BIOS was being an ass and not recognizing it. I played with the settings and fixed that but it was still trying to boot from it and not finding NTLDR. The BIOS had an odd way of saying boot from cd, but I found it. I booted from the CD it recognized the HDD and I installed windows. Its was just the Dell crap being annoying.
