Windows - No Disk error... help

Heya everyone! Happy New Year!

keep getting an error:

Windows - No Disk (box heading)
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive . (error in box, emphasis on the drive ".")

cancel/try again/ continue - given as options.

i'm getting this while trying to run certain progs, particularly the pc decrapifer.

comp is running perfectly, no problems save this error. rebooted, scanned, nothing helps.

any ideas folks?

TIA!

~Vinny

What kind of errors do you see in Event Viewer?

Right click My Computer, select Manage. Then select Event Viewer and see what errors are reported. You can click the links shown in the error report for advice.

That's the PS/2 keyboard and mouse driver.

Did you by any chance install Windows with a card reader hooked up - and your system drive is a letter other than C?

sorry for late responce, fell asleep shortly after posting.

my system drive is indeed a differnt letter than c, however i did not install windows with a card reader attached, both my keyboard and mouse are on usb's, not ps/2's... in fact i have nothing in my ps/2 ports.

i did however hook up a new keyboard, but over a week ago and did not have this error until yesterday. i did uninstall norton and install AVG shortly thereafter, possibly a connection?

thanks again!

You are getting the error because you are using USB, not PS/2. Ignore it.

If the system drive is not C, this could be causing the insert disk issue. What drive is your C drive?

F is my system drive. c is labeled in my computer as "removable disk"

is it possible to turn off the ps2 port. the error is quite annoying as it keeps pcdecrapifer from running because i'm pretty sure its trying to clean out the c drive rather than f drive

I recommend you back up your data and wipe the hard drive completely and reinstall from scratch. That is the only way to sort out the drive letters - and do the reinstall with ALL peripherals disconnected except keyboard, monitor, and mouse. Also disconnect anything that's connected to the internal USB headers - like an internal card reader, maybe? Disconnect all drives except the main hard drive, one optical drive, and the floppy drive. Got a zip drive in there, maybe? Got a USB printer with card readers, maybe?

zip drive yes, truthfully i forgot i had installed that, haven't used it once in 5 years.. no card reader though or printer with card reader.

i've been considering a hd wipe for a while now honestly. maybe this is my excuse. i'd have to back up quite a bit of data. at least 30gigs worth of the wifes photos, itunes, etc.

at the point of reinstall i can choose c to be my local disk id imagine, so that would solve that.

ugh. not looking forward to a full system wipe. have done it 2x now and its so annoying. though it maybe a good idea for sure.

maybe i'll grab an external hd, back up on that then wipe. i only have a 40gig hd so i need an external hd anyway for all my wifes photos and files (she's a photographer).

ick.

thanks for the info, i'll see if i can work up the courage for a system wipe today or tomorrow

so disconnect the internal zip drive for reinstall? keep dvd drive AND cd-rw drive connected? or only one as you mentioned only one optical.

i dont THINK i have anything on an internal usb... not that i know of at least save maybe the internal zip?

Connect only one optical drive and the hard drive. When you do an install with just a HD and a CD drive, Windows will load to the HD and will be assigned C:
