I wanted WinXP, not Win2000

Good morning,
I’m not sure what happened??
My mother In-law purchased a refurbished Dell Computer, with Win2000. She wanted WinXP, so I chose not to upgrade the current version, but to install XP as a stand alone OS.

When I rebooted the PC, I was expecting WinXP to load, but I ended up on the black dos screen.
Before I could proceed, I had to choose either Win2000 or WinXP, which I chose XP. (I tried them both, they work) I thought if you don’t choose the option to Upgrade the OS, it’s supposed to be a fresh WinXP install???

I don’t understand why Win2000 is still working, let alone on her PC?? How can I get rid of Win2000??

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
Shawn

You forgot to reformat the drive, so you got a dual boot. Completely wipe the drive.

Shawn... continue

Thank you,
I'll have to find someone to help... it would be too painfull... I couldn't last sitting through the proceedure (multiple failed Back Surgeries). She has the WinXP CD, but without the installation disc's for the existing Software, I'm not sure what to do at this point.

Depending on how long it would take, I may have to keep it the way it is, not to continue, unless I can find somebody to help??

Very much appreciated,
Shawn

Shawn... good morning

Since I screwed up with the instalation of WinXP, what would you recommend I do, if I was to continue?

I never Formatted a Drive that had 2 OS on it... I'm not sure how to proceed, or what to do with the WinXP??

Prior to Formating the Drive, would you recommend I go into Add/Remove, in order to uninstall WinXP??

Very much appreciated,
Shawn

Before doing anything, please do this. Right click on My Computer and select Manage. Choose Disk Management. Describe in detail exactly how the hard drive is partitioned. Look at the bar graph in the lower right pane to determine this. Also post the exact model of this Dell and what exact CD's it came with.
