windows xp home problems

Hello:

I've been struggling all day with Windows XP Home, it gets to the screen where the blue dots are flashing across the screen and no further. I have fixed it twice...or so I thought, everything working fine, then I reboot and it does it again.

The first fix was to copy system files from another computer to the broken one:

Windows\system32 files:
Kernel32.dll, user32.dll, shell32.dll, ntoskrnl.dll, hosts

The second fix was to restore the hard drive using a backup about a month old, made with Acronis, and that worked or so I thought, everything working fine, then I reboot and it does it again.

I have run every antivirus, anti-this, anti-that known to mankind. I really don't know where to go from here, except of course reinstall windows which I do not want to do. Maybe the answer is to go out an buy a Mac.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try booting into Safe mode. Start pressing F8 after the BIOS screen appears. If it boots in safe mode, then it's probably a problem with a driver or new program that has been installed.

Well, sometimes I can get it to boot to Safe Mode, and sometimes not. I restored again from Acronis, and everything is working fine, but I'm scared to reboot. How can I find the driver that's causing the problem? I have run ccleaner and registry mechanic. I did install and then uninstall a couple of programs yesterday and that's more or less when the trouble started.
Thanks.

What were the programs that you were installing / uninstalling?

I wish that I could remember, but I think one of them was Mobiledit--software for cell phones.

Send a message via MSN to MaxRat
if you keep having issues just back up your info and then wipe the drive and do a fresh install with the latest drivers and then reload your programs...

Try a repair reinstall - procedures are in a sticky in Tips and Tricks - you won't lose any data.

Sounds good to me. I thought that I had read everything, but I must have missed it.

I swear, there is no option for repair reinstall on the windows xp home that I have. It is an oem edition, maybe that's why? By the way, I just rebooted the machine and I am back to square one again. I do have another full version of windows xp, but that doesn't go with the broken machine. I'll bet that wouldn't work.

You may use that to do a repair reinstall if you use the CD key that belongs to the machine.
