Strange Icon problem in XP Pro
Hello everyone
I'm experiencing a very strange problem. Recently I installed a really old game just for fun on my computer. When I rebooted after install, my My Network Places and Recycle Bin icons had suddenly been changed to a Windows '95 or '98 version! Very low quality, very small amount of colors. I mention the game because I had to run it in Windows '95 compatibility mode, and that may have been part of the problem. I looked at the customization settings and the icons are apparently set to the XP version, and yet they still appear with this older one... I uninstalled the game and even had the computer revert to a restore point from last week...no luck! Some icons in the Start Menu were affected as well. They were the Control Panel, Printers and Faxes, and Taskbar/Start Menu icons. Folder icons in the start menu were also affected. What's going on?! |

Have you checked Display properties (right click desktop, properties) and made sure that the color quality is at the appropriate settings?

Yes. As I said, there are only a couple icons affected, not all of them.
I've provided a picture of the desktop and start menu

Try downloading TweakUI here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx
After installing it, there is an option to Rebuild Icons.
