MS will probably make updates to XP for a couple more years.
ALL updates will probably still be available for a few years after that.

XP will be around for awhile, at least until we all have a chance to upgrade our hardware, I hope.

Hi guys,
Well MS should really have spent their time bringing out an SP3 for XP & concentrating their Vista project on purely 64 bit hardware. I mean the Windows updates for a fresh install of XP SP2 must nearly top eighty or so. Now that's just plain crazy...

Maybe there will be an SP3 for XP....but that's what they should have done IMHO.

In a command window, type "systeminfo" sans quotes.

Clean install of XP Pro SP2 two years ago, and I have 169 "hotfixes" listed. And, I know I am currently behind by about 20 updates. Looking at a Belarc report, all the latest ones are labeled SP3.

This might be a dumb question, but what the heck. Are service packs cumulative or are they all separate? Meaning, basically, will SP3 have the contents of SP2 in it as well, or if I have to reinstall my OS (which only has SP1 on it) am I going to have to download SP2 and then SP3 as well?

Actually, I guess I could use my brother's XP disc for the install, because his is newer and has SP2 on it.....but just out of curiosity, the questions above still remain. Any insight?

XP's SP2 negates the need to install SP1, so it is cumulative. It remains to be seen if SP3 will contain SP1 & 2, because all that has been released are individual updates.
