Changing the way you login in WinXP Pro
Hello. How do you change the way you login. Actually, I don't want to login at all. I want to go directly to the desktop when I start the computer. It was setup that way and then after I installed some HP drivers, I now have to login for some reason. thanks

Is your XP fully Upadated? The early .Net updates caused this problem with the Guest account being turned on and causing the login. Later updates overcame the problem and the Welcome screen was reenabled. Try visiting Windows Update and see if that does it.

Yes. I have it fully updated as far as priority & hardware updates but the optional updates I have not. Is there something I should install. I just did a complete reinstall, updating everything and I was on the desktop till the end when I installed the HP printer driver.

Check in Control Panel>User Accounts and see what you get when you Change the way users log on or off.

I ended up deleting some strange net account and now I login directly to the desktop. I imagine it's some account HP created for some reason. I have no clue as to what these net accounts are all about.

Yup, I had that on one machine too. Turning off or deleting the account was next on my list of suggestions. Glad you got it.

The account is created by the installation of the Microsoft .NET Framework. You should not delete that account.
To set up an automatic logon, open a run box and type: control userpasswords2 |

Now that I deleted it, what will happen? Normally, I haven't installed the Microsoft.net framework but I guess microsoft updates, installs it when you indiscrimately download updates. I don't see it on the computer I am on now but I installed it on the one with the log on problem. I'm not sure why I need it. Can I just uninstall it? Now sure if other updates are involved if I do. You may uninstall it as long as you don't have any hardware or software that requires it.
