DX 10 discussion
I am about ready to start ordering components for my first build. But this matter of DX 10 concerns me. As I understand it, DX 10 comes with Vista and will be the new standard for video development. But I don't intend to buy an 8800 video card- probably go with an XT 1950 XT or a 7900 GS. So I have to wonder about this. Won't ATI and Nvidia release new drivers for these cards to enable them to operate under the new standard? Assuming the hardware is capable, of course. Or are these cards a dead end as far as DX 10 is concerned?

In a word, No, DX 9 cards are not DX 10 compatible, so yes, they are dead as far as DX 10 goes.

We are advising new builders at the current time to go for mid range DX9 graphics cards that will keep you going until Vista and DX10 are the standards.
A 7900GS or an x1950 Pro are both excellent cards that aren't too expensive. FK
