greedo Windows Imaging Software

Hey, I'm looking for a piece of software that will "Image" a drive for me. I don't want it to only image it though, I need to be able to restore the image to a machine of slightly different configuration and still work. I know Macs can do this using a piece of software called "Carbon Copy Cloner" but how can I do it on Windows?

Thanks.

Even if you are successful imaging the drive when you install it in a diffeent machine you will very likely need to do a repair install. Unless they are mostly identical setups Windows will know it is on a different machine probably fail to boot and reqiire a repair install. There are several ways to achieve the image of the drive. Drive manufacturers all have available for download software that will do it fo you. There also numerous commercial products available. Acronis True Image comes highly recommended arounf here although I dont personally use it. HTH

Here is our review of Acronis 9: http://www.pcmech.com/show/softwarereviews/973/ Acronis 10 is out now, but the main features are still there.

I use Acronis 9 to backup an image of my drive on a remote server. It is very easy to use software.

Thumbs up

Thanks guys, it looks good. Just to clarify I am setting up about 12 SP1 Toshiba laptops for a school and they need to have all the same updates, programs, accounts and settings. This is why I need to image them. They are all the same model so I doubt there will be hardware variations, but you never know.

You're sure this software is capable of what is specified in my post above?

One license is required for each machine.
