Recovery?

I am trying to reformat/re-install xp.
I am using my recovery disks that was supplied with my laptop...
Everything seems to be going well untill it is in the verifying or sometimes aligning stage and it has a read fault....any ideas? I am using an Acer travel mate with xp home.
