Windows XP Load Problem

My computer experiences a problem when trying to boot up.

When I boot my computer, I will get to the Windows load screen and it just hangs there... It looks like the computer is looking for something, never finds it and just sits there loading and loading and loading.

I have had this problem since I built the computer. Usually i just need to reboot or go into safe mode and reboot and everything works fine. Today however, I have tried the normal boot, reboot into safe mode etc... but I cannot get the computer to boot fully.

Is this a common problem? Am I missing a file? Maybe I should reinstall Windows XP? Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful. Thank you.

Is it looking for a network connection that doesn't exist?

It sounds like it is missing files or or the like. You get any error messages at all?

I would do a HD scan, it that doesn't show anything, try to do a repair with the XP install disk if that doesn't work, then reinstall.
