Problem with WinXP Firewall

I have Windows XP Pro SP2 and my Windows Firewall randomly turns itself off. When I try to access the Windows Firewall settings through Control Panel, it says "Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection (ICS) Sharing Service." Can someone help me fix this problem?

Scan your computer for malware. Viruses, trojans, and spyware can do this.

AdAware and Spybot are good as long as you use both of them. If you want to be even more thorough, you should also try Microsoft's Malicious Software tool.

And you might also want to scan with AVG Anti-Spyware. And you can do a on-line scan at HouseCall.

I'd scan for viruses and trojans *first*. Housecall is good for that.

Do you have a third party firewall that might be shutting it off? I know Norton will disable the XP ICF, maybe others do, too?
