Lost 'System Information' data
When I select the System Information program, most of the menu data such as Hardware or Software components, is missing and I get the message that the component(s) is not installed or not working .
Also, when I try to open Windows Media Player, I get the warning ' application error has occured ' . Are these two problemd related ? and what possible solutions are indicated? Otherwise, everything seems to be Ok..Any ideas, anyone. ? Win 98. |

Lost System Information data
Tim, I tried that ( uninstall/install) on version 9 of WMP.: wouldn't reinstall without the warning, so installed version 7. It doesn't work as well as my original v9 but will serve my purpose. Just can't figure out why I lost my 'System Information' though, as that is a basic Windows feature. Must be something I inadvertently erased! Oldun.

Did you use Easy Cleaner, by any chance?

Its registry cleaner was a bit too aggressive. If you told it to make a backup, restore it. Just saw this here the other day.

The Duplicate file finder will list some system files and obviously deleting some of those is dangerous. G. maybe we can come up with a sticky warning people of the dangers of using the duplicate file finder in EasyCleaner, this is not the first time this has happened.

That's not the issue - it removed about 4 registry keys from what I've heard.

I haven't seen that issue.
I still have a few customers using W98 and ME and I do recommend using EasyCleaner, fore warned is fore armed, any idea if it is limited to a particular version of EasyCleaner? any ideas as to what registry keys were affected? Last edited by rjfvillarosa; 01-27-2007 at 11:22 AM. |

Not really, but this adds to the reasons I recommend Crap Cleaner instead. Easy Cleaner just has too many options, good as it may be. However, Crap Cleaner has an issue with 98/ME, the analyze scan stops with a blank window when it's ready to clean. The registry cleaner part works properly though.

Thanks for all the suggestions, On further review , I find that the missing information relates to the Hardware resources and Components section, I did do a Registry clean up in the Easy Clean program, and thought I'd revrewed the redundant files before erasing them. The question now is, can those files be restored? unfortunately I omitted the obvious step of creating a back up at that time. Oldun

You might be able to do it with system file checker. Put the 98 CD in, open a run box and type SFC. This will fix it if it's missing system files but not if its missing registry entries.
