Question Remove Win98 files after XP Update

I recently upgraded my os from Windows 98 to Windows XP Home with the upgrade version + sp2.

There must be some old Win98 files on my hard drive. Is there a particular folder the XP put them in or are they scattered across my drive?

Can any of these files be removed? Or, what should be done with them. I just want to keep everything "fairly" clean.

You might have a folder called windows.old you you could maybe delete...Just be sure and backup ALL important files before you do anything.

Add/remove programs should have an entry to remove the Win98 files.

I re-checked the Add/Remove programs for an entry to remove the Win98 files. Nothing there relating to Win98.

Also ran a file search for windows.old, *.old and Windows 98

The Windows 98 search found about 20 folders but nothing about old files.

I'll see if I can find something at Microsoft.

I did notice in the Add/Remove programs an entry for an old 56k modem I had. I am pretty sure I used the Remove programs to uninstall the software. Now when I click Remove the Uninstall Shield starts and then I get a message that says unable to locate the installation of log file C:\Windows\DeIsL2.isu'. Installation will not continue.

Get the same thing on an old SoundBlaster Live program.

How can I get rid of these items and all of the files associated with them?

They are already gone - except for the entry. I'd download CCleaner and run it to help clean up. The Issues button is the registry cleaner.

Upgrading 98 to XP is never as clean as a fresh format and install, I avoid that whenever possible.
