Simplest solution I can give you is really basic "DOS" ones!
Open up a command prompt (START > RUN > cmd) and type the following commands in exactly as you see it in bold .. I'll explain the command in italics. I'm listing 3 variations of listings that are very similar. Open the text files to see the difference

  • cd\
changes to the root directory (C:\)

  • dir "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs"/s > list1.txt
This takes the contents of the program files menus and puts them all into the file list1.txt

  • dir "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\*.lnk"/s > list2.txt
This takes only the shortcuts and puts them into the file list2.txt

  • dir "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\*.lnk"/s /b > list3.txt

Open Windows explorer and you should see list1.txt ; list2.txt and list3.txt .. list1.txt should have too much information (about subdirectories etc) .. list2.txt should be more to the point and finally list3 should just be all the links out there.
Keep in mind that .lnk files are the shortcut files. You can then print out the text file that you like.

And - that will only show the items that are for all users - the programs that are only in your profile will have to be done separately, the same way.

Yeah .. forgot to include that part ..
all you need to do is to change the command - dir "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs"/s > list1.txt to
    dir "C:\Documents and Settings\Mike\Start Menu\Programs"/s > list1.txt

Assuming that there is a username Mike on your system and so forth...

    Print programs

Couldn't you just hit "print screen" then open paint and paste it there? Same as a screen shot?

you could, but depending on how many programs you have installed, that could be a long process (if they don't all fit within one screen)

this also gives him the ability to edit the file as he needs to
