New OS for new hard drive?

Do you need a new Windows for everytime you replace a hard drive? If not, how many times can you use the windows? If you go thru 10 hard drives replacing broken ones or upgrading can you use the same Windows 10 times?

Sorry, double posted.

If you are talking about changing to a bigger or better hard drive you dont need to reinstall at all. Simply use the new hard drive makers utilities and copy the old drive contents onto the new drive.

So I don't have to loose everything on my hard drive then, just transfer everything from one to another? That is awsome news. But... I'm not sure I understand how to do it. I have a sata hard drive, If i get another sata hard drive, how do I use the new hard drive makers utilities to copy the old drive contents onto the new drive? Is it possible you can explain to me a bit in detail on how to do this. I'll go buy a hard drive tommorow if I can figure this out.

When you buy a new harddrive it will come with a utilities disk. Every manufacturer has it's own. Basically you would install the new harddrive in the computer on the sata 2 connector and boot with the utilities disk. The program will start and detect the drives. Choose the copy drive/partition option and tell it to copy the old drive contents to the new drive. When complete turn the computer off and disconnect the old sata hard drive and put the new on the Sata 1 connector. (Not sure if this is absolutely necessary but it cant hurt.) Then boot the computer with the new hdd only. If all goes well you will be booting normally from the new hdd and will see your os and all files as you did on the old drive. Then shut down again and reconnect the old drive to the sata 2 connector and reboot. Then you can use the old drive for whatever you want. HTH Oh yea one more thing. If you buy oem drive it will not come with the utilities disk. You can download from the manufcturers website.
