Go to the support and troubleshooting page for your exact model printer and look for articles - you will probably find one that addresses that exact issue. You didn't provide the printer model or exact OS, so I can't offer any better suggestion - that's where i would go to find the answer for you anyway.

Does your computer detect your printer as new hardware before you put the installation CD in the drawer?

Software must be installed before connecting the printer, rjf.

gerald, have you looked through the HP site yet?

I have gone through the HP site and have not found a good answer as of yet. I talked to a friend and he said that HP software was "notorious" for this type of problem. I don't know. Is there a way to "open up the registry" to the software?

I was not, however I have found that there was an issue with my original install of the OS. I have since reinstalled MS Media and the issues have vanished. Thanks again for all of your help
