win xp question

computer: (old) Compaq Armada 3500 notebook: PII/300, 200 ram, winxp-home ed.

issue: each time i boot up, xp tries to detect video controller--this is annoying and slows
boot time

question: how can i disable winxp from seeking this video controller- notebook works fine
as is (without this seeked video controller)??

thanks

If you mean it's using the add hardware wizard to try to add drivers to it, then the easiest way to do it is to cancel out of the hardware wizard, or let it install whatever drivers it wants, then use the device manager to disable it. if you manually disable any piece of hardware, windows will usually leave you alone.

You need to install the correct driver.

That notebook was NOT designed to run XP, so you may just have to live with it.
