Need to Delete Partiton in Win XP

I have a 120 gig HDD that was using about 50 gig as the C: drive , and the remainder left for future use. The man messed up the C: drve/corrupted, so installed fresh XP Pro on the other partition. The new system is now C: drive and he wants to erase the D: partition.
He could not... and I can not. I look in Disk Management and D: is healthy- 62.95 GB NTSF-49.55 GB Free. It has one folder named: " xwz" . Could not erase. Open the folder- it has one item: " Microsoft Windows OneCare Live." - could not erase.
Open the folder: one item: " database" - could not erase.
Tried using Command Prompt- I got all the way to " database " then access denied.
Right click in Diak Management on D: and thought I could format- greyed out.
Inserted the XP disk while in Windows, thinking " Other Tools " might let me fomat the D: partition, but could not find.
I don't want to back up his data and redo the entire disk. What is Microsoft Windows OneCare Live , and how do I delete it and make a usable partition? I looked at " delpart" but it looks like it does not work in XP.
Any ideas " Thanks.

are you able to fomat that problem partition ?

if you can then see if you can just move the c to the d then rename the d to c

I never had to try this and it may not work

You are probably going to have to use Partition Magic to delete the partition and move the new C to the beginning of the drive. You may have to finish up with a repair reinstall too.

Thanks Bailey... no... can not format that partition... access denied.
Thanks GLC.. I will try Partition Magic to delete the partition.
Any idea what Microsoft Windows OneCare Live is ?? I guess I thought it might be what Windows did to back up Windows during a second install. Perhaps he said to save the current Windows when he re installed and the OS won't let the database be deleted. Thanks

Thanks... I had never heard of it.
Perhaps the owner downloaded the trial, etc, but one would think if it backed up the data it would ask for a password etc to restore.
I will try Partition Magic, and if it denies access there, I will have to back up and then restore after re install.

Partition Magic did not do it. It loaded the program but could not delete the partition. When I tried, it said that part of the program did not load. One partition was primary and one logical. It kept aborting, so I used the XP disk to reload. It automatically tried to load to the Windows partition as default, and did not give me a chance to delete the problem partition. Tried to use the disk wipe on the Ultimate Boot Disk , but it would not let me past the " I understand " that needs to be typed. Finally I had to write zeroes to the HDD using WD utilities. That cleaned all partitions. Am now reloading Windows. Don't know what he did to get it that way, but could not get rid of it.
Thanks for the help.
