Essential Software To Support Windows Xp
A friend was given a computer, loaded with Windows XP, for her young daughter. In order to speed up its function she asked me to remove some programmes in which her daughter would have no interest.
In this regard, I went to Control Panel and entered 'Add and Remove' and removed some programmes. However, when the little girl bought some games, she found that not all of them could be operated on the computer. Also, when the processor is switched on a message flashes up on screen, indicating that software (unspecified) needs to be downloaded and that the operating system may not function fully without it. I suspect that I may have inadvertently removed one or more programmes essential to Windows XP. Do you know of a web page that lists all programmes essential to Windows XP? My friend is not connected to the internet, but I am, and thought that, if necessary, I might be able to download software to a disc and then transfer it to her computer. |

start>run>msconfig>startup tab and remove all programs from starting when the pc is turned on, then reboot and see if the message keeps popping up.
after rebooting a window will pop up, put a check in the check box and click ok to prevent it from coming up on the next reboot.

Use the XP disk to perform a System File Check
Start > Run > cmd type sfc /scannow (note the spacing!) You will be prompted to insert your XP CD. sfc - system file checker, retrieves the correct version of the file from %Systemroot%\System32\Dllcache or the Windows installation source files, and then replaces the incorrect file. If you want to see what was replaced, right click My Computer > manage, expand event viewer > system. System File Checker (sfc) Scans and verifies the versions of all protected system files after you restart your computer. Johanna |
