Problem deleting old folder in XP
Still have a little problem with the new install of XP I installed over the top of my original XP installation. The problem is that I have a folder in Documents and Settings that is left over from the old installation. It has the name on it that I used in my original installation of XP but when I click on it , I get the message "file is not accessible, access denied" I tried to delete it and get the same message. If I hold the cursor on it, it tells me that the folder is empty. I am talking about the folder that is installed by XP and it contains, My documents, Start menu, Windows, UserData, Desktop etc
I have a new folder in Documents and settings that has these files and this folder has my new name on and I have no problem accessing it. Is there some way I can get rid of this old folder, it just gets annoying seeing it every time I go into docements and settings. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Thanks Ezy
How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP: This is what it tells me to do but I dont have a security tab as in step 2 and no advanced owner tab. 1. Right-click the folder that you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties. 2. Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message (if one appears). 3. Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab. I dont get those option tabs when I open the folder properties The only tabs I have are General, Sharing and Customize I am running Windows XP home. For XP Home, you need to boot in safe mode, log-in as administrator then you should see the security tab.

Gee I feel so stupid, how could I have missed that. I will read every word next time. Twice.
It worked a treat and I now have access to the files I thought I had lost completely when I reinstalled XP. Thanks again guys |
