Hi everyone! I understand that this is a horriible time for everyone and I wish I did not have this problem right now but I really need to get it resolved. We have a network in our office which has 6 PCs and 9 MACs all connected to a Gigabit switch. All of the PCs have Win98SE installed on them and a few days ago I upgraded the OS on my PC to Win2K and thats where the problem kicked in! The installation and cofiguration of the OS itself went without a problem and everything is installed and configured. We use a raid 5 SCSI connected through a MAC which we use to serve audio files which are needed for the work that we do here. Now we map certain folders on the server as network drives and these drives are used by the software that we run. Well here is the problem, I map the network drives on my Win2K machine and it maps fine and pops up the folder with the files listed, then I would close the folder and try reopening it a minute or two later and there is nothing in the folder and nothing will appear until I refresh the folder. And so when I use the software to pull the audio off of the drive the drive comes up as empty!!!! What I want to know is can I somehow make the connection to these network drives/folders stay constant and uninterupted????? Please reply if you have any suggestions at all! Thank You all for the help! Leo.

It's preferable to use UNC paths if your software allows it, so do so if you can and that will solve the problem permanently, no matter what drive "letters" are in place.
\\comptuername\folder\folder for instance. Also are you using the same username and password that you logged onto your network before with? You might simply not have the correct permissions to read the folder on the other machine if you're logged into your Win2k machine as the default "administrator", with a password that's not valid on the network with that username. Thanks for the suggestion! The thing however is that I can connect to the folders and see the contents when I first map the drives and also when I refresh the folders I can see the files. It seems that the maped drives time out or something!?!? What I really want to know is can I somehow make the connection refresh periodicaly. I have another problem emerging, for some reason it takes me much longer to pull up the database on a server from the Windows 2000 machine then from a Windows 98 one. Plus it seems that when a Windows 98 machine is using a certain database file the Windows 2000 machine can not access it???? Is there a way around this problem!?!?! And the final problem is I have an application which worked fine when I just installed Windows 2000 but now, for some reason, when I click on the executable file there is some activity going on for a few seconds, but then nothing happens. When I check the Task Manager and check the process it shows that the program is running!!! What is happening???? Please, any advice is greatly appreciated!!!! Leo.
